The Product Lead at the exchange, Siddharth Coelho-Prabhu stated that: “Starting today, you can now store your bitcoin cash (BCH) directly in the Coinbase Wallet app.” “The new wallet update with bitcoin cash support will roll out to all users on iOS and Android over the next few weeks. BCH support is activated by default — all you need to do is tap ‘Receive’ on the main wallet tab and select bitcoin cash to send BCH to your Coinbase Wallet.” he continued.

Speaking further, Coelho-Prabhu explained that the wallet is in support of both newer Cashaddr address formats and legacy addresses for backward compatibility in all applications.

It also supports “Bitcoin Cash Testnet to aid developers and power users,” he added that his team at the exchange intends “to add support for the JSON Payment Protocol in the future.”

Also, the security of the Coinbase Wallet app is greater compared to the previous custodial web wallet. Based on the press release from the exchange, the users’ passwords are encrypted and are stored on the mobile devices using a Trusted Execution Environment (TEE), or Secure Enclave technology. “This specialized hardware is considered the most secure way to safeguard private data on mobile devices,” the Product Lead said.

Originally for Ethereum Tokens

This news concerning BCH support comes after its bitcoin core (BTC) support which was announced on Feb.5.

In the past, Coinbase supported Ethereum, Ethereum classic, and more 100,000 different ERC20 tokens and ERC721 collectables built on Ethereum.
