Five Crypto Mining Hackers Have Been Arrested by South Korean Authorities
A recent report has made it known that five hackers were arrested in South Korea recently. The hackers are been accused of installing malware on unsuspecting victim’s computer. The report made it known that about 6,000 computers have been infected by these hackers so far.
24-year-old Kim Amu-gae is the Leader
The report made it known that the five hackers have been arrested and are currently under investigation to determine the extent of damages they have done. Based on the report, the hackers are been led by a by a 24-year-old named Kim Amu-gae.
A report documenting how they carry out their operations made it known that these hackers operate by sending and corrupted emails to their victims. These emails are usually disguised to look very important. The report made it known that a total of 32,435 corrupted emails has been sent by these hackers.
The report also made it known that the content of the emails sent is mostly about a job opening. This way the hackers get to lure job seekers into thinking of them as a prospective employer.
The hackers are able to do this using the readily available recruitment platform databased scattered across several websites in the country. The report made it known that on this recruitment platforms and job listing portals, the hackers were able to access more than 30,000 email addresses of job seekers.
Hackers Hide Malware in the Email Sent
Once the email address has been stolen, the next step is to attach the malware to the email content and have it sent to the unsuspecting victims.
With the email topic clearly stating that it is from a potential employer, the open rate of the emails increases. Once the email is open and the file attached to it gets downloaded, the document system becomes corrupted.
