MetaMask has Launched a Mobile App Version

The widely used Ethereum and ERC20 token standard wallet, MetaMask has unveiled a mobile app version. The mobile app was unveiled at the DevCon event. MetaMask enables the transfer of ETH and tokens launched on top of the Ethereum blockchain network.

MetaMask is a highly secured ERC20/ETH token wallet which enables the transfer of ETH and tokens launched on top of the Ethereum blockchain network. The wallet is a product of the popular blockchain technology company—ConsenSys.

Joseph Lubin, the CEO of ConsenSys, officially launched the App Ethereum-focused conference held in Prague, Czech Republic. The event had several tech giants from around the world in attendance. Few of these companies include Wanxiang, Microsoft, ShapeShift, Santander, Blockfolio, and Wanxiang and EY.

Joseph also twitted about this on his official page. The stated that:
“The@metamask_iomobile app was just announced at#Devcon4! Everyone’s favorite#Ethereumbrowser extension is coming to your phone. The team is focusing on not being ‘just a wallet’, but a portal to the world of all things.”

The Significance of a Mobile Client

MetaMask was initially a browser extensions wallet until the unveiling of this app. The app is expected to make it easy for a transaction to be made on the go, and conveniently. In relations to whether this new wallet version will provide the same security measures like the extension, it was made known that all security protocol required has been taken. To further back this claim up,

Joel Snyder, a senior IT consultant, made it known that the presence of a trusted execution environment (TEE) in smartphones allow devices to store data that cannot be reached by hackers.

He further stated that:
“This is why smartphones have an edge over laptops and desktops for cryptocurrency wallets: without the benefits of the hardware-based TEE, the keys are more vulnerable. There is a significant caveat: a naïve wallet developer might choose to simply store the keys on the normal internal storage of the phone, in which case there’s little additional protection from using the smartphone platform.”
